In June of 2017, U.S. Army Veteran Kirk Alkire from Eagle River, Alaska, submitted a formal application to the United States Board on Geographic Names to name an unnamed peak in Alaska, “GOLD STAR PEAK.” Gold Star Peak will forever recognize the memory of those service members that have given their all, by honoring the families they left behind.
“Our nation recognizes that no one has given more for the nation than the families of the fallen,” he says. “Honoring them by naming this peak is a small token of our appreciation for each of their sacrifices.”
We, the undersigned, support the naming of an unnamed peak in Alaska, “GOLD STAR PEAK” which will honor the families of our countries fallen servicemen and women. Because, our nation realizes that no one has given more for the nation than the Families of the Fallen. Honoring them with naming this peak is a small token of our appreciation for each of their sacrifices.
