Honda to clean debris at Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville

ALEXANDRIA, La. (Walker Honda) – Employees and volunteers from Walker Honda in Alexandria Louisiana are joining more than 20,000 volunteers from across North America to participate in Honda’s third annual Honda Week of Service.

Walker Honda is one of hundreds of Honda dealers across the United States volunteering in their local communities during the second week of June to encourage support of local communities.

On Monday, June 11, Walker Honda employees and volunteers will travel to the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville, Louisiana to clean debris from gravesites, flowerbeds and around the cemetery grounds. Once all beds are clean, Walker Honda volunteers will then place individual United States flags on each of the of the 461 grave sites at the cemetery in honor of Flag Day on June 14th.

This is the first year that Walker Honda has participated in the national ‘HONDA CARES’ program.

“This is just another way for our dealership to give back to our local community and support our veteran community,” Misty Campbell, Finance Manager at Walker Honda and lead volunteer of the Honda Cares initiative said. “The people in this cemetery all sacrificed in one way or another for our country and this project is a small token of our appreciation for their service. We are very fortunate to have veterans on our staff and this was a great way to not only show our appreciation for them, but to the fallen soldiers as well. The Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery was opened in 2012 and is located on 204 acres right outside of Fort Polk. The Cemetery has a total of 704 people interred on the site on the 16 acres currently being utilized.
