Gold Star Families Honoring Committee

The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs is proud to support the “Gold Star Families Honoring Committee” which was established during the 2017 Regular Legislative Session by HR 196

The Gold Star Families Honoring Committee was established to honor the Gold Star Families of Louisiana by studying the best practices for the families of the fallen service members of the United States Armed Forces.

The committee will present its findings to Louisiana’s House Special Committee on Military Affairs and the Senate Select Committee on Veterans Affairs prior to the start of the 2018 Legislative Session which it is well on its way to accomplishing.  To do this, the committee needs to complete a report before the 2018 Legislative Session.

The committee began taking public input during its first meeting held at the on Dec. 12.  The committee gathered suggestions made and also shared that the public could send any additional suggestions to the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs at, 225-219-5000.

At the end of the committee meeting, the committee decided that it would hold its next and final committee meeting most likely during the first week of February.

The LDVA is also pursuing working with the National WWII Museum, which presented information regarding the Herschel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation in planning the first memorial to Gold Star Families in the Louisiana Veterans Memorial Park which dedicated on Veterans Day this past year.
