Veterans Homes
Since 1967, Louisiana has been providing quality long term health care to her veterans. Louisiana has expanded its commitment to veterans and now operates five state of the art veterans homes located on majestic yet serene campuses throughout the state. In 1982, Louisiana opened its first fully operational veterans home in Jackson and has since opened others in Monroe, Jennings, Bossier City and Reserve.
In order to be eligible for admission, a veteran must have served on active military duty a minimum of 90 consecutive days. If active military service was less than 90 days, the veteran must have been discharged as a result of a disability incurred in the line of duty and must have received a discharge under other than dishonorable conditions for his most recent period of active military service.
There is no cost for veterans that are 70% service-connected or higher.
All Veterans homes operated by the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs now accept non-wartime veterans, spouses of veterans and Gold Star Parents.
