LDVA Veterans Cemetery Program
When Lane Carson was appointed as Secretary of Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs in 2008, he made expanding the Department’s Veterans cemetery program one of his top priorities.
In February, 2012 LDVA proudly added the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville to the LDVA Cemetery Program, joining Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery which had been established in Keithville in 2007. LDVA plans to add Veterans cemetery locations in all regions of the state including Southeast, Southwest and Northeast Louisiana.
LDVA Veterans Cemeteries are made possible with grants through the VA Cemetery Grants Programs, which provide 100% funding for all aspects of initial planning and construction.
A Place of Honor
Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Cemeteries offer a variety of burial options for our nation’s heroes.
- Available for Veterans, their spouses and dependent children
- Open for interments every Monday through Friday
- Services include opening and closing of grave or columbarium niche, provision of grave liner, memorial headstone or marker, memorial flag, military honors and a facility for committal service
- Open daily for visitation
- There is no charge for Veterans and only a small fee for spouses and dependent children
Dignity
Upright granite headstones for casketed burials. Flat granite memorial markers for in-ground burial of cremated remains. Granite niche covers for columbarium interment. Bronze plaque for scattered ashes.

Each LDVA Veterans Cemetery features an Administrative Building with a computerized grave locator available 24/7 (A grave locator is available online at GraveLocator.cem.va.gov). Committal Shelters offer shade and seating for interment services.
